Close your eyes and imagine paradise. Chances are you’re thinking of Goa with its lush green trees, picturesque hills, exquisite rivers and countless dazzling beaches. Golden they lie, in the warm tropical sun, caressed by the most beautiful stretch of sea in the world. The state of Goa has a coastline of 125 kms, 83 kms of which are beaches. It is the call of these beaches of Goa that travellers around the world find impossible to resist.
So what’s so special about the Goa beaches? Well let us take a closer look at some of these tourist attractions in Goa to find out:
Agonda: A sea so clear that you can see the bottom under you! Well, the Agonda beach is one of the best beaches in Goa if you wish to go swimming. It’s also relatively secluded; which means that you can spend days sunning yourself without being disturbed by hordes of tourists. After all with the sea and sand for company, do you need anyone else?
Anjuna: No Goa tour is complete without a trip to this beach. It would not be an exaggeration to say that it represents best what the world knows Goa as. It has been the favourite haunt of the ‘flower children’ of the sixties. One can still find some of them here in Goa. Also the legendary flea market, which is famous around the world, is on the Anjuna Beach.
Baga: Goa is also famous for its restaurants and beachside joints. And the best of these can be found on the Baga beach. Ranging from authentic beach shacks to slick restaurants to pubs where jet-setters hang out in. Add to this the fact that the sand is exquisitely white and the sea, irresistible.
Calangute: Its name is derived from Koli Gutti or the land of fisherman. This beach used to be known as the queen of Goa beaches and therefore features prominently in any Goa travel guide. However, in the recent years, other beaches have become more fashionable.
Palolem: It was not surprising that when they wanted to shoot the Hollywood blockbuster ‘The Bourne Supremacy’ in Goa, they chose the Palolem beach. It has everything that you or Hollywood could ever want. An outstanding stretch of sand, dolphins, fishing and yes a little island you can swim off to. Now you know why this is called the ‘Paradise Beach’.
