Khajuraho Reviews
Erotic Temples of Khajuraho:
My first introduction to the erotic temples of Khajuraho happened with my visit to Lakshmana Temple. The temple is situated at the left side of the entrance of the western group of Khajuraho temples. The temple is renowned for the display of erotic sculptures adorning the outer walls of this temple. My guided tour to the western group of temples provided me great opportunity to gather the history and various interesting facts of the temple.
This astonishing temple built in 950 A.D. is still well preserved and the famed carvings are still clearly visible. One can view the figures under varied sexual positions for which the temple has gained utmost glory. The sight is truly magnificent.
The Sound and Light Show at Khajuraho:
My trip to western group of Khajuraho temples was strategically planned by my GeTS Holidays’ tour operator. Albeit I was adamant to visit the western temples in the morning sun, he insisted me to visit the Eastern group first so that by the time we reach western group its already noon. It was actually a pleasant surprise to know that the temple complex hosts a sound and light show in the garden area every day. This was very entertaining and informative. It first began in English for the foreigners at about 7:30 pm and later in Hindi language at about 6:30 for locals.
The show gave detailed information on the construction, history and significance of these temples. It also included a mention of the famous legend about the construction of these temples which says that a beautiful Brahmin maiden Hemvati had a union with Moon God. The union thus gave birth to a son who later became the ruler and founder of the Chandela dynasty. He was the one who constructed these temples.
