The famous Khajuraho temples located in the Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh has a number of marvellous medieval Hindu temples. The acclaimed sculptures and architecture of the temples makes Khajuraho a popular tourist destination in India.

The famous Western group of temples in Khajuraho is designated as the World Heritage Site and is enclosed within a beautifully laid out park. In a western temple tour, the temples display the best craftmanship of Khajuraho.

Lakshamana Temple: Dedicated to the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, the temple is renowned for the three-headed idol of the incarnations of Vishnu. The incarnations of Vishnu are Narasimha and Varaha. The spectacular temple stands on a platform, which has beauteous sculptures depicting elephants and horsemen in procession.

Vishwanath Temple: Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it has a large image of Shiva's vehicle, the bull (Nandi). It is one of the most beautiful temples in Khajuraho that is surely a masterpiece work with intricate craftsmanship. Flanked by lions and elephants on the northern and southern side respectively, the sculptures depict women in sensual moods.

Kandariya Mahadeo: It is the largest temple in Khajuraho, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The beauteous temple structure is 102 feet long, 67 feet wide, with a tower 118 feet high. The tall sculptures of Hindu gods and goddesses on the main shrine are very beautiful. The main chamber enshrines a lingam, which represents Lord Shiva.

Chaunsat Yogini Temple: It is the popular granite temple, which is dedicated to 64 Yoginis, the manifestations of the Mother Goddess. Set in an open courtyard, the temple is built on a large raised podium with small temples surrounding it.

Lakshmi and Varaha Temple: The Varaha or boar incarnation of Lord Vishnu in the temple is three feet tall. The highly polished sandstone idol of Lakshmi and Varaha is nine feet high with its surface covered with 674 deities. This temple of Lakshmi is one of the most attractive tourist places in the city.

Chitragupta Temple: It is dedicated to the Sun God. The Nandi Bull facing the shrine is the temple distinctive feature.

Matangeswara Temple: It is dedicated to Lord Shiva with eight feet tall lingam is the temple’s famous feature.
