Located in Triplicane in Chennai, Sri Parathasarthy Temple is dedicated to Hindu God, Lord Krishna. Built in 8th Century by Pallavas Kings, this temple is regarded as one among the 108 holy abodes of Lord Vishnu. Parthasarathy was the name given to Lord Krishna as he was the 'charioteer of Arjuna'. In this temple, Lord Krishna is worshipped in this form.

Though Sri Parathasarthy Temple in Chennai was the gift of Pallavas but later Cholas and Vijayanagar Kings renovated it. This temple is among the most revered Hindu pilgrimages in South India. This temple is marked by the presence of deities of the four incarnations of Lord Vishnu, namely, Rama, Narasimha, Varha and Venkata Krishna.

Situated in the heart of Chennai, this temple is among the oldest structures in the city. There are many shrines in the temple. All the standard feature of South Indian Temple architecture such as magnificent “Gopuram”, mandaps with elaborate carvings, can be seen in this ancient temple also.

Chennai Parathasarthy Temple has a legend behind its construction which goes like this. King Sumathi was promised by Lord Venkateswara that king would be able to see Lord in the form of Lord Parthasarathy. And eventually, King was blessed with holy sight of Lord Parthasarathy. The idol of Lord Parthasarathy Swami was installed by the Sage Athreya in this temple. Greta acharya Sri Ramanuja was born after his parent prayed at this temple for a son. It is believed that great saint Ramanuja was the Lord Parathasarthy himself.

There are some unique features in this temple like face of main deity, Lord Parathasarathy is full of scars as the Lord Krishna’s face was got pierced by arrows during the war of Mahabharata. Another feature is Lord has a moustache in this temple and does not have his divine weapon, the Chakra. This is because he promised that he would not take weapons during the war.

At the Chennai Parathasarthy Temple, devotees can have the delicious prasadam (offering to the God) which includes Chakra Pongal, Puliyodarai and Thayir sadam. Temple organizes many festivals like grand brahmotsavams for Sri Parthasarathy swami, Udayavar uthsavam (April-May), Sri Azhagiyasingar (June-July), grand utsavams for Sri Ramanuja(April-may) and Sri Manavalamamunigal(oct-nov) and many others.
