Life Never Stops Here
What a fun at Chandni Chowk—street life full of shops, eateries--food and show at the same time! Honestly saying, I discovered real Dilli (a popular term for Delhi) here. I reached at 10 am at this street market in Old Delhi, but the life at Chandini Chowk started already.. It seems life never stops here; Small shops, small restaurants run by women and men both. To soak up in its atmosphere I explored all the nooks and corners of the market, some places are a lot dirty. I had an idea of Delhi street food; and I am not a fussy one, so I can soothe my palate anywhere. I entered the parthawala gali to taste some Indian parathas. I was awe-stuck when I had a glance of the menus of the parathas-various parathas made from vegetables and wheat. Prices were not too much, just 1 $ for a paratha. Really it was so tasty.

Fun is always here at Chandini Chowk. People of all religions smile together. I jumped into an open rickshaw to Jama Masjid. It was a real fun; the ride costs just 10 Rupees. I explored here Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in Asia. The architecture is marvelous.
Best of Cuisine
I was in Delhi for seven days. It is a paradise for the foodies like me. In each restaurant I had tasted some new dishes. What you want to savor-Chinese, Indian, regional Indian, continental-everything is here in Delhi. Among the most delicious meals- I tried in Delhi are Tandoori chicken, some south Indian and Mughlai cuisines. Hey friends, Delhi has several varieties of sweet. You could not deny the taste of Bengali sweets here. But be careful; avoid the pedestrian sweets if possible. I had sweets only in the good restaurants. Every hangout has restaurants, bars and pubs. But the ethnic foods that I tasted in the food and crafts Bazzar Dilli Haat were the most mouth-watering. Ethnic foods at the outdoor tables ranging from -north-eastern, Maharastra, south Indian, north Indian- you can have everything at a nice ambience.
Shopping in Delhi
Delhi is good for shopping. While in Delhi I explored all the shopping centers-both outdoor and indoor. Palika Bazzar, Sorojini Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Kamala Nagar- are the main traditional market centers of Delhi. I visited these market places and in each market I have seen so many new things-from decorative items to eateries. Jute products, jewelries, handicrafts decorative items-the common things seen in outdoor market- I bought in Delhi. For branded products there are showrooms of the companies and shopping malls. When I visited the underground market Palika I was wondered a lot. Huge collections of things-(hardly you will find in a modern departmental store). I had also picked up some ethnic dresses and items from Dilli Haat.
Mughal Monuments
Missing a visit to Red fort means missing lots of Delhi tour. Since my childhood I was fascinated by the brave stories of the Mughal. So when I physically landed in Delhi I wanted to explore the Mughal monuments. I explored lots of Islamic art throughout the world. It was always a discovery. But When I explored Lal Quila or Red Fort it was again a new exploration to me. The original fort of Shah Jahan though not in its original form, yet it is still a marvelous creation on earth. The Lahore gate was the most impressive one. All the surroundings gates and palaces of Red Fort were marvelous creations of the Islamic architecture. Being a lover of art and architecture I also explored the
Humayun’s Tomb, Qutub Minar, Old Fort, Raj Ghat, India Gate, etc. |
