It is situated opposite to the Red Fort across the road. It has many galis and kuchas which retain its historical character. History of Chandni Chowk

Foundation of Chandni Chowk was laid by the dear daughter of Shahjahan, Jahanara.  Chandni Chowk was the main street opposite Red Fort in the walled city of Old Delhi. And it was established in 1650 AD.  Originally, a canal used run in the middle of the street and it was used for water supply needs.  Chandni Chowk runs from the Lahori Gate to Red Fort to Fatehpuri Masjid.
Originally, there were three sections of Chandni Chowk; Lahori Darwaza to Chowk Kotwali, Chowk Kotwali to Chandni Chowk  and Chandni Chowk to Fatehpuri Masjid. Chandni Chowk was initially a square which had a reflecting pool.
