First they named it as Bhagyanagar after the woman he loved whose name was Bhagmati. Later, when her name was changed as Haider Mahal, name of the city was also changed to Hyderabad. During this time, city became important trading centre for the traders coming from Europe and Asia.
When Mughal Emperor came to know about the prosperity of the city, he captured the city and plundered it. He appointed Asaf Jah as its Prime minister and ruled it. Later, Asaf Jah became the ruler of Deccan region, after the Mughal rule came to an end. According to a pact between Nizam II and East India Company, British troops set their foot there and founded twin city of Secunderabad.
A visit to famous historical places in Hyderabad is a must for history buffs. After independence in 1947, Hyderabad continued to be separate state. It became capital of newly created Andhra Pradesh in 1956.
