Andhra Pradesh State Archeological Museum in Hyderabad is a must visit place. Hyderabad is the most important city of Andhra Pradesh due to many reasons. It is the state capital and also has rich historical legacy in terms of monuments and other historic objects. Hyderabad was ruled by many great kings at various times. This makes Hyderabad right place to have such a building which contains the great collection of stone and metal sculptures made in historic times.

Located in the public gardens, State Archeological Museum in Andhra Pradesh is a beautiful building. The stone and metal sculptures and idols displayed in the museum belong to the ancient and medieval Andhra Pradesh. Most of these statues belong to Satavahana and Ikshvaku periods. There are five galleries in which these relics are positioned. The museum also has a pavilion which displays Ajanta and Deccan paintings. Modern Art Gallery situated inside the museum, showcases the paintings and sculptural art of contemporary artists in Hyderabad.

Counted among the famous museums in Hyderabad, this museum was founded in 1920, in the reign of VII Nizam. This is listed among the national museums of India and is known among the best museums of the country.
If you are lover of history and archeological objects, some objects will definitely attract you attention on your visit to this magnificent museum. These include an Egyptian mummy, coins of the Satavahana period, important Buddhist and Jain relics, sculptures of different periods, a Buddhist gallery, Brahmanical and Jain gallery, arms and armor gallery, numismatics gallery, Ajanta gallery, Bronze figures from the Vijayanagar and Chola periods, ninth and tenth century Jain figures (particularly the goddess Ambika), Roman coins and copies of Ajanta Caves' Buddhist murals.
When you visit State Museum, make it a point to visit Contemporary Art Museum which is located nearby. This museum showcases art work from 1st to 4th century AD. Jain sculptures from Patancheru, belonging to 11th century are also displayed here.

In the garden of the museum is positioned a hall with huge columns and carved ceiling. There is also wooden temple chariot which has intricately carved monsters on its beams. The museum is open for public from 10 AM to 5 PM on all weekdays except Mondays.
