Visiting Hussainsagar Lake in Hyderabad is a true visual treat for eyes. The promenade on the bank of the Lake is just perfect place to have stroll in the evenings. This Lake was built in 1562, in the reign of Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah. The lake was built due to idea and efforts of the Hazrat Hussain Shah Wali. Originated from a tributary of River Musi, initially, this lake spread up to 24 km. To meet the water and irrigation needs of the city, this lake was constructed. Lake was built much before the Charminar. In 1992, a huge monolithic statue of Lord Buddha was erected in the middle of the lake. Hussain Sagar Lake is popularly called as the Tank Bund.

Hussainsagar Lake has a dam, Tank Bund, on its eastern side and it is the meeting point of the Twin cities, Hyderabad and Secunderabad. On the Tank Bund Road, statues of 33 renowned personalities of Andhra Pradesh are erected. Besides, beautiful parks and gardens adore this boulevard on the both sides. Large amount of traffic runs on this road. Spending an evening, in these gardens, amidst the cool breeze from the lake is a favorite activity even among locals. Other side of the Tank Bund is located on another popular boulevard, Necklace road.

Tank Bund area is the entertainment site in the Hyderabad. Parks, temples, capital’s administrative club mark this area. Other famous structures located on the southern side of the Tank Bund are NTR memorial, the Lumbini Park, aesthetically built Secretarial Buildings, Hyderabad Boat Club. On the northern sides are located structures like the Sanjeeviah Park, Secunderabad Sailing Club and the Hazrat Saidani Ma Saheba tomb. Lower Tank Bund Road, running parallel to the Tank Bund was built to reduce the traffic congestion on the Tank Bund.
