
Salar Jung Museum in Hyderabad is not less than a treasure for the city. Located on the southern bank of the river Musi, this museum is known among the most important historical monuments of the city. It is also located in close proximity of other important historical monuments of Hyderabad like Juma Masjid, Charminar, State Central Library, and High Court.
Founded in 1951, Salar Jung Museum is one of its kind. It contains the largest one-man collection of artifacts, antique, coins, jewels and other objects. The museum is placed inside Diwan Deodi, which was the residential palace of Salarjung III. In the court of Nizams, Salarjungs were the important aristocrats.
There are 38 galleries inside the museum which are positioned on three floors. These floors are referred as the Central Block, Eastern Block and the Western Block. A rare collection of Islamic art, which is collected from all over Asia, is displayed in this museum. Other spectacular collection is comprised of European paintings and sculpture, Chinese and Japanese art objects. “Veiled Rebecca”, sculptured by Italian sculptor, Giovanni Maria Benzoni is the marvelous piece of art.
