Salar Jung Museum in Hyderabad is not less than a treasure for the city. Located on the southern bank of the river Musi, this museum is known among the most important historical monuments of the city. It is also located in close proximity of other important historical monuments of Hyderabad like Juma Masjid, Charminar, State Central Library, and High Court.

Founded in 1951, Salar Jung Museum is one of its kind. It contains the largest one-man collection of artifacts, antique, coins, jewels and other objects. The museum is placed inside Diwan Deodi, which was the residential palace of Salarjung III. In the court of Nizams, Salarjungs were the important aristocrats.

There are 38 galleries inside the museum which are positioned on three floors. These floors are referred as the Central Block, Eastern Block and the Western Block. A rare collection of Islamic art, which is collected from all over Asia, is displayed in this museum. Other spectacular collection is comprised of European paintings and sculpture, Chinese and Japanese art objects. “Veiled Rebecca”, sculptured by Italian sculptor, Giovanni Maria Benzoni is the marvelous piece of art. Within the 78 rooms, about 40,000 art pieces are displayed. Due to this large collection of rare artifacts, this


museum is listed under the “institutions of National Importance.”
To fully see and admire the entire Hyderabad Salar Jung Museum, you need several days. The museum holds art objects, curios and antiques from various periods and various art forms. This collection includes rare sculptures, jeweled swords, books, illuminated Korans, astrolabes, daggers, Persian carpets. Other objects include calligraphed classics, manuscripts, hukkas, mirror backs, crusted pieces boxes, miniatures and others. All of these objects were collected by the Salar Jungs. It was due to the efforts of Mir Yousuf Ali Khan (Salar Jung III); this collection of antiques got assimilated. His father and grandfather also collected some of the art objects.

Arms section is very intriguing where you can see the bejeweled and ornamented hits of swords, daggers, fishbone, handles of jade. Other precious stones used were emeralds, rubies and diamonds. The art displayed this museum is eternal and unmatchable.

There are many co-ordination sections also in the museum such as Chemical Conservation Laboratory, Education Wing, Display section, Photo section, Reception and a Sales counter.
