Ponmudi, the ‘golden peak’, is 56 km from Thiruvananthapuram, capital of Kerala. Perched at 1066 meter, this little known hill station of South India is a far cry from the noisy humdrum of everyday life. Towering peaks crowd the skyline, their green covered slopes dovetailing into each other.
Since accommodation is limited, one can even opt for a day’s visit to Ponmudi. The place is divided into Upper and Lower Ponmudi, with basic tourist facilities available in the tourist zone in Lower Ponmudi. Part of the Cardamom hill range, the place is dotted with tea estates, and rubber and eucalyptus plantations.
