Kollam
Kollam, known as Quilon to Portuguese traders is a small city in the Kollam district of southern Indian state Kerala. Earlier it was the commercial hub of the foreign traders. It is located at a distance of 71 kilometers from the state capital of Kerala, Trivandrum. It is a famous tourist destination in Kerala as it is the southern gateway to Kerala backwaters. Kollam is also known as the paradise of cashew due to its heavy amounts of cashew production. Foreign travelers of fame like Marco Polo, Ibn Batuta visited Kollam and penned down their experiences and treasures of Kollam in their travelogues. Thirummulavaram and Tangasseri Beaches : Kollam has beautiful scenic beaches namely Thirummulavaram, Kochupilamood Beach (Kollam beach) and Tangasseri beaches. Maha Vishnu temple is located at Thirummulavaram beach which is dedicated to Hindu God Lord Vishnu. Tangaseeri Kollam has a light house built by british in 1902towering 144 feet high. The Mermaid Statue located at Kollam beach is also worth visiting.
Ashtamudi Lake : What Ashtamudi will offer you are the scenic landscapes, houseboats and ayurvedic centers. Boat cruising and water sports are available at Ashtamudi Lake. The nearby stunning palaces to visit are Padappakkara, Munroe Island, Vellimon, Paravoor, Ashtamudi, Thevally, etc. One can also visit the 'Tenmala' tea estates and spice country.
