Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary

Chinnar Wildlife SanctuaryIndia Tour Enquire

  • Trekking in Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary :
  • I had been in Munnar for a week. One day I started my drive to the wilder parts of Munnar; my first destination to explore was Chinnar Wildlife sanctuary. A guide accompanied me and said that Chinnar gets rain only in the months of October and November due to its location in the rain shadow area of the Western Ghats. It was early December.

The road was foggy; the air still had the freeze of the night. We crossed misty mountains, tea plantations of Kannan Devan, fruit-laden trees mostly orange, the sandal wood town Marayur, and finally entered the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary. In a two hours of journey into the forests of Chinnar I have seen some birds, a herd of elephants, sambar, languor, etc.

  • Visit to Rocky Paintings of Chinnar :
  • On reaching Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary from two hours drive from Munnar. We (4 in a group) entered the tourism department office and took all details for trekking. A guide from the office accompanied us and we entered the dense forests. Climbing a hilly slope we reached the dolmens of sages where rocks are arranged unusually. Next we climbed down a huge rock and saw drawings of rocks which we converted into physical figures like animal and human figure. I had seen a breathtaking view of the valley from the slopes. Green everywhere…The guide told that dusk or dawn was the best time to view animals here. While we returned back, the guide showed me a herd of elephants coming down to plain area. At lastagain we spotted some sambar Deer and Common langur.
