Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary

Kumarakom Bird SanctuaryIndia Tour Enquire

  • Birding at Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary :
  • I started off a morning walk through the paths of the Kumarakom Bird sanctuary. It was an average walk as I have seen a few birds only. The naturalist guided me was very friendly and a man with a good sense of humor. He played some jokes with me and suddenly he had showed me some migratory birds in the grassland.

I saw the birds through the lens of my binocular. The backwater canals flow near the sanctuary and so I was availed the opportunity of birding on a boat ride. As I have a penchant for house boat ride in Kerala backwaters I could not resist my spirit. On the same day I enjoyed a houseboat ride on the backwater canals. The greeneries were sensuous to make my ride a mesmerizing one.

  • Bird Watching through a Boat Ride :
  • I visited Kumarakom with dual purposes-to see the bird life as well to enjoy a motorboat cruise. I stayed at a resort near the sanctuary and every morning walked to the sanctuary. I always got up early in the morning as the chirping ofbirds was a wake-up call for me. The environment was cool and soothing to the mind. I experienced yoga and meditation and how can I forget the rejuvenating body massage.

I enjoyed several walking tours to the sanctuary to spot birdlife, each day I spotted new birds, various species of plant I also saw here. I chose a motor boat in an afternoon to enjoy a backwater cruise on the serene backwaters of Kumarakom. The boat trip made it possible to see the birds on the waters of the Vembanad Lake for me. Lastly our boat moved towards the Island of Pathiramanal (meaning Sands of night) where I have seen a good number of migratory birds frolicking on the water.
