Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary

Periyar Wildlife SanctuaryIndia Tour Enquire

  • Tiger and Elephant Rarely Spotted :
  • Earlier I read negative reviews about wildlife viewing at the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, yet I expected a lot when I planned a trip to this sanctuary located in Thekkady, Kerala.

  • This was my second visit to God’s Own country bur first to Thekkady. On the first day I enjoyed a boat ride in the morning inside the sanctuary and I have seen some eagles, 3 or 4 bison and some wild pigs. I took another four boat rides but hardly saw wildlife and it frustrated me. It was the month of November, the weather was pleasant. The scenic surroundings thrilled me, facilities were good at the resort, I enjoyed campfire in the resort.

  • Periyar Sights are Good :
  • My dreams shattered when I couldn’t spot any tiger in Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. I saw a hornbill, and other birds in the forest. But it was a good trip as I love the greeneries a lot. I experienced the holistic yoga and tried some ayurvedic Kerala massages.

  • Boat Riding at Periyar :
  • Our four days staying at the Periyar House, a government run old-styled hotel was an enjoyable one. The main facility we availed here that it was located inside the forest reserve. The hotel authorities did not allow us to come out in thenight and I alone once came out and felt the mystic beauty of the nature in night. We enjoyed elephant ride, jungle safari by a jeep, but the most memorable one was boat riding on the Periyar Lake. The scenic surroundings of the lake added more zest to our boat ride. It was an early morning ride and we luckily spotted two wild elephants frolicking on the bank of the lake.
