  • Settled amidst lofty mountains and vast plains, The Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal is a terrain of remarkable contrast in climate and topography. With lowlands of sub-tropical jungles to arctic conditions in the Himalayan highlands, Nepal virtually has all climate zones of planet Earth. Nepal is blessed with a great diversity of life-zones providing home to a large variety of plants, birds and animals.

    According to a conservative estimate, in total Nepal wildlife sanctuaries have as many as 100 different kinds of mammals and 750 kinds of birds. With several sanctuaries each having its own charm; tourists and wildlife enthusiasts are bound to make a Nepal wildlife tour.

  • Terai Lowlands:
    Well watered, it is Nepal’s richest habitat with tall Riverine and Hardwood Sal forests. Musk Deer, Black Buck, Blue Bull,the Royal Bengal Tiger, Gharial and Marsh Mugger Crocodile and the last breed of Asiatic Wild Buffalo are here.Richbirdlife includes Babbles, Orioles, Koels and Drongos, Peacocks and Floricans and Wintering Wildfowl. With swamps and ox-bow lakes, The Royal Chitwan National Park houses the One-Horned Rhinoceros. Once a famous hunting area, Chitwan is located between the Shivaliks and one of famous wildlife sanctuaries in Nepal. Makalu Barun National Park houses rich flora, many of which have medicinal qualities.

  • Midland:
    The Mahabharat Range has moist temperate forests of Deodar, Oak, Maple and Birch which houses Deer, Ghoral, Serow, Leopard and Monkey. Nepal's national bird, the lmpeyan Pheasant, is found with endangered birds like the Koklas and Cheer Pheasants. Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve is the only reserve, legalised for hunting with game animals to preserve high-altitude ecosystem. Other protected areas include Khapted, Pokhara and Shivapuri Wildlife Sanctuary.

  • Arctic Zone:
    Higher up, is the freezing alpine mountain region housing Snow Leopards, Blue Sheeps and the Himalayan Tahrs sansany vegetation. Rare are the Wolf, Black Bears and Lynx. Renowned for untouched natural beauty with a balanced ecosystem, Sagarmatha National Park is the world’s highest wildlife reserve. With snow capped peaks including Mount Everest, Sagarmatha is considered the most unique of wildlife sanctuaries in Nepal. Common birds include the Impeyan Pheasant, Red/ Yellow billed Coughs and Cheer/Blood Pheasant. Langtang is the most unblemished and ecologically diverse sanctuary, set to preserve natural surroundings and protect endangered wildlife with local support. Though the smallest, Rara National Park is another of beautiful Nepal wildlife reserves, the personal favourite of Nepalese monarchs for years.
