There is no end to the heritage and tradition that is synonymous with Rajasthan and Jodhpur is but another jewel in the crown. This city, once the capital of the erstwhile Marwar state has been an indispensable site to visit on the Rajasthan tour circuit, with its charming havelis (houses), bustling bazaars (markets) and old-world aura. Jodhpur is divided into two sectors, the old city hemmed in by a high wall and the new where the restaurants and markets are located.
Jodhpur is steeped in medieval heritage and its attractions are the magnificent forts, palaces and other buildings, which are testimony to the regal past. Now, the Marwari community dominate the commercial scenario as they do all over India. But any Rajasthan travel guide includes Jodhpur for its festivals, folk culture and the gracious warmth of its people. The handicrafts are a specialty here and exports of these constitute a large part of the economy.
