Durbar Square:

One of the renowned tourist spots is the Durbar Square, a World Heritage Site in Nepal. It includes a large complex of temples and ancient buildings, once home to Nepal’s royal family. It includes:

Hanuman Dhoka:

Hanuman statue marks the entrance or dhoka to Katmandu’s old Royal palace, once home to Nepal's royal family.

Kastha Mandap:

Constructed from the wood of a single tree, it is a unique wooden temple housing the Hindu God Gorakh-Nath. The capital of Kathmandu derived its name from this 'Kastha Mandap.'

Kumari Temple:

A Buddhist stupa is housed at the center, which is the residential quarters of the living Goddess, Kumari. The Kumari acknowledges devotee’s greetings from a central window of the balcony particularly saved for Her alone.

Pashupatinath Temple:

On the bank of the sacred river Bagmati, a tributary to the Ganges, Pashupathinath is the temple of Lord Shiva (the creator and destroyer of life), famous for its two-tiered golden roof and silver doors. Area along the banks are the Ghats where people are cremated.

Swayambhunath:

It is a 2000 year old, world famous Buddhist Chaitya known as the ‘monkey temple’ because it houses apes. Atop a hill, it offers a spectacular sight of Buddha’s eyes gaze serenely downwards.

Bouddhanath Stupa:

A World Heritage Site, this ancient gigantic Stupa is one of the biggest in the world and centre of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal.

Kirtipur:

A natural fortress, Chilmahu Stupa and the Bagh Bhairab temple are famous sites. With artistic houses and temple squares, people are skilled in building and weaving.

Jal Binayak Temple:

 The triple roofed Temple of Ganesh stands on the riverbank, housing an image of Shiva and Parvati.

Dakshinkali Temple:

At the confluence of two rivers, stand the Dakshinkali temple dedicated to Kali Shiva's consort in her most bloodthirsty incarnation.
