The Hindu epic Ramayan dwells on the beauty and splendor of Sri Lanka, with over an estimated 50 sites in Sri Lanka, connected to the Ramayana lore, it is no wonder that this tour is in great demand. The Trail of Ramayana’ is based on research findings that link the sites to Lord Ram, wife Sita and demon king Ravana.
Get welcomed by MCI GeTS Holidays representative on arrival at Colombo International Airport and get transferred to your selected hotel in Negombo. Take an afternoon city tour of Negombo and return to your hotel for the night.
After breakfast, take an excursion to Chilaw and visit the Munneshwaram temple dating to 1000 CE. The temple, dedicated to Hindu God Shiva, is associated with the popular legendary Indian epic Ramayana. The temple is where the first “lingam” (an abstract of Hindu deity Shiva) was installed and prayed by Lord Rama and till date, this lingam is called as Ramalinga Shivan. Then return to the hotel in Negombo.
After breakfast, leave for Dambulla and check-in to your accommodation in Dambulla. Visit Sigiriya where Ravana built Alakamandava, the City of God.
After breakfast, proceed to Jaffna and check-in to the hotel. Get into the ferry boat and travel to nearly 35 kms to the Nainativu Island and Delft Island. Return back to Nainativu island, visit Nagapooshanee Amman Temple & Nagadeepa Buddhist Temple (Buddha visited this place) Post visit, drive back to Jaffna town and proceed for the sightseeing tour including NallurkandashamyTemple, NaguleshwaramTemple in Kirimale, Selva Sannidhi Murugan Temple.
After breakfast, proceed to Dambulla and visit Ramayana sites in Dambulla called Cobra cave, Ritigala. Then return to the hotel for overnight stay Dambulla
After morning breakfast, leave for Kandy, and check-in to the hotel of choice. Visit temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, and Sri Bhakta Hanuman temple, and also the Sita fort where Ram’s wife Sita Devi was imprisoned by the demon king Ravana.
After breakfast, leave for Kandy. Proceed to Nuwara Eliya and visit Seetha Amman Temple where Sita was held captive by king Ravana. The footprints on the rock next to the river believed to be of Hanuman, and Divurumpola, the famous place of Sita’s Oath.
After breakfast at the hotel, visit Hakgala Botanical Garden. Hakgala Garden is the exotic pleasure garden where king Ravana kept the depressed Sita. Visit Mani Kattuthre where Lord Hanuman, after meeting Sitadevi, rested on this hilltop on his way back to Lord Rama with the happy news of finding his missed consort. Return to your Hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel leave for Nuwara Eliya. En route visit Ravana Ella Cave and Ravana Waterfall where Ravana was hiding Sita. After checking in to the hotel, get some rest then visit Kataragama. Kataragama is an important holy pilgrimage town to Buddhist, Hindu, Muslims and indigenous Veda people of Sri Lanka. Kovil, which is dedicated to Lord Karthekiyan, who was requested to go to the battlefield by Lord Indra to protect Lord Rama from the wrath of Lankapura King Ravana and his Brahmaasthra.
After breakfast, proceed to Colombo and visit Kelaniya temple where according to legend, Vibeshana, brother of Ravana was crowned king of Lankapura, after Ravana’s body was cremated. Take a city tour of Colombo and experience the hustle and bustle of commercial capital Colombo. Check-in to the hotel and stay overnight stay in Colombo.
Your tour ends this morning after breakfast and your transfer will be provided to the airport in time for your departure flight. Alternatively, you can choose to extend this tour with a stay at any of the options available in Sri Lanka or the Maldives.
