Visit Shillong, the capital city of the state of Meghalaya (meaning abode of clouds; literally sight clouds floating across the mountainous state), popularly called as the “Scotland of East”. Next is Cherrapunjee, one of the wettest place on earth (as it receives most rainfall in a year), and one of the most popular attractions in North-East India. Another gem is Guwahati, the largest city of Assam, and dubbed as the “gateway to the northeast”. In this tour you will travel the off-the-beaten path to discover little known gems such as the traditional living root bridges, the crystal clear waters at Dawki, plunging waterfalls of Meghalaya, enticing caves and ancient temples of Guwhati; overall, you will experience a breathtaking journey to places that are tucked in the lap of some of the most gorgeous parts in India, in the northeast.
Arrive in Guwahati and transfer to your hotel.
In the afternoon/evening, visit the Kamakhya Temple, sitauted on Nilachal hill, 8 kms west of Guwahati city, is one of the oldest and the most venerated shaktipeeths (significant shrines and pilgrimage destination in Hindu goddess-worship) in India. The temple is dedicated to goddess Kamakhya, an incarnation of Sati. Says the Shiva Purana, that the yoni or creative organ of Sati fell when Vishnu, in a bid to save the world from the Shiva’s Tandava nrittya or dance of destruction, cut her dead body into 51 pieces with his suddarshan chakra (spinning, disc-like weapon). The Garbhagriha (the innermost sanctum sanctorum) deep inside the temple, marks the sacred spot and is kept covered with red silken cloth.
After breakfast, check-out and drive to Shillong (5000 Ft) with enroute stopover at Umiam Lake to enjoy the scenic beauty of the area. Drive further and arrive in Shillong and transfer to hotel. In the afternoon, visit the St. Catholic Cathedral Church, which is followed by a visit to the Mall road.
This morning after breakfast, visit Shillong Peak and Elephant Falls. Later, proceed to Dawki - a border town with Bangladesh and visit the area of Umngot river where it has crystal clear waters. Continue to Mawllynnong - cleanest village of Asia, and enroute visit Single decker living root bridge inside the jungle. Later, visit and enjoy the locally made watch tower, made up of bamboos. Afterward continue drive to Cherrapunjee (4800 Ft), check-in at hotel.
After breakfast, visit Double Decker Root Bridge, and in the afternoon, visit Arwah Caves, Nohkalikai Falls, Eco Park, Mawsmai Cave & Seven sisters water fall (one of the longest in India). Evening free to move around the cozy town.
After leisurely breakfast, drive back to Shillong and visit Don Bosco Cultural Museum, Lady Hydari Park. Transfer back to your hotel. Evening is free to walk to the famous Cafes of Shillong where they play Live Music.
After breakfast, check-out and drive back to Guwahati. Visit Kalashetra Museum and transfer to your hotel. Late afternoon, enjoy Brahmaputra river cruise.
After breakfast, check-out and transfer to Guwahati airport for your flight to onward destination.
