Nepal, a country perched on the Himalayan region is a home to various Buddhist monasteries as it was the birthplace of Lord Buddha. Buddha was born in Lumbini, Nepal earlier it was a part of India. Due to Buddha’s birthplace and his early life in Lumbini and Kapilavastu, Nepal became a main centre of Buddhism and it gradually spread to Tibet and Bhutan also. So besides Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan are also two main centers of Buddhist education and various Buddhist monasteries are there for teaching and practicing Buddhism.
Due to fascination for Buddhism, travelers all over the world visit Nepal and its monasteries and Buddha’s birthplace. The monasteries of Buddhism in Nepal increased in number and the numbers of monks also increased here. They lead the spiritual life at the monasteries learning and preaching the enlightenment thoughts of Lord Buddha. Now Buddhism is the foremost religion in Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet. The Tibetan Buddhism also expanded all over the world.

Kopan Monastery:
Kopan Monastery is one of the most renowned Tibetan Buddhist Monasteries in Nepal. It is loacted near Boudhanath, where the Boudhanath Stupa is located. The Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) established this moastery and it was the centre of Tibetan Buddhism centre in Nepal. The Tibetan monks who are in exile in Nepal due to politicial conflcits reside at this monastery. The western spiritual travelers learn Buddhism here. There are a total of 45 moasteries in Boudhnnath.
Tengboche Monastery:
It is located at the Solukhumbu district of Nepal. It is a monastery of the Sherpa community. Its importance is that it is located on the way to the Everest Base Camp and so attracts the foreign travelers. This monastery has spectacular look. After the mountaineering success of Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norkay this monastery got prominence and a good number of visitors visit this every year.There are various other Buddhist monasteries in Nepal. In Lumbini, Kapilavastu, there is also some Buddhist monasteries and ruins of Lord Buddha’s time. In various Buddhist pilgrimage centers of Nepal, Buddhist admirers from China and Japan built monasteries as to spread the enlightenment thoughts and beliefs of Buddhism. The Nepal’s Buddhist monasteries are located on mostly hilly areas having a stunning view. In Nepal there also separate Tibetan Buddhist monasteries.![]()
