Paro
Paro district valley is one of the most renowned tourist sites in the kingdom of Bhutan. Due to the migration of the Tibetans to Paro valley, there is a mix culture of Bhutan and Tibet here. The sightseeing places in Paro, Bhutan are discussed in brief below.
Taktshang Monastery
Taktshang monastery is a famous monastery in Paro district of Bhutan perching on a cliff at 3120 metres above sea level. It is located at a distance of 10 km from the district town of Paro. Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal who is renowned for his creation of a separate Bhutaneese identity from the Tibetan roots visited this monastery in the 17th century. There are seven temples at this monastery.
Kyichu Lhakhang or Kyerchu Temple
Kyerchu Temple, a temple in Paro district of Bhutan built by Tibetan King Songsten Gampo in 7th century is visited by travelers due to to its ancient charm. A legend tells that King Songsten bulit this to fight against a demoness who prevents the spread of Buddhism in the area.
Drukgyel Dzong
Drukgyel Dzong is a ruined Buddhist monastery dotted on the higher Paro valley. It is said that the Bhutanese built this to fend off the invasion of the Tibetans.
Paro Town
Paro Town is the hub of booming business of Bhutanese products. The travelers as a part of travel to Paro,Bhutan should visit this town to buy some traditional products of the Bhutanese people. The handicrafts items and woolen products made by Bhutanese people have a good market due to their artistric creation.
Rinpung Dzong
Rinpung Dzong, the large monastery in Paro is also the administritative centre of the district. It is also a famous tourists attractions in Paro. The shootings of the film Little Buddha are done here.
National Museum of Bhutan, a museum of culture of Bhutan established in 1968 is located in Paro town. The main aattrations of the museum is its Bhutanese art such as bronze statues and paintings. The collections of the antiques are decored artistically in several galleries. This musuem has now a total of 3,000 works of arts of Bhutan reflecting the 1500 years history of cultural heriatge of Bhutan.
