Himalayan Abode In Jammu And Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir in the northern tip of India has been guarded by armed forces for ages owing to border conflict. Kargil had seen a lot of blood bath in 1999, which ended up injuring India physically and emotionally. Thankfully, things have changed with time. The state had opened gates for tourists soon after, with adequate safety measures. With millions touring Jammu and Kashmir annually, tourism bounty seems to be on a roll.

Leh Ladakh in Jammu are oft thronged by trekkers and bikers. Riding across the hilly terrain on Himalayan abode is loved by adventure enthusiasts. River rafting is a regular activity here. If you’re ready to camp and conquer the heights on feet, you’re welcome. Besides these, the roads are good enough for vehicles, hence no worries. Visit virgin lakes, heritage monasteries, palaces, enjoy undisturbed view of Himalayas.

Kashmir’s beauty is at par with Jammu. The capital city Srinagar is marked by massive Dal Lake with houseboats. These immobile boats have well-furnished interiors with flowing curtains, thick carpets, a lounge-cum-dinning area, attached bath with rooms and suites. Boats are the only mode of transportation, but there’s a twist. These traditional boats are called shikaras, which help you discover life ashore and on the lake. Vegetable gardens, local markets, rural life is toured aboard shikaras. Nightlife on houseboats is lovely. Sit on the verandah with a cup of coffee or any beverage and enjoy the serene ambiance. You can also shop from various shikaras carrying carpets, shawls, junk jewellery, paper mache handicrafts which sail to your houseboat.

Gulmarg is another happening town here with world’s highest rope way ride. Skiing and golfing are frequent here. Pony rides and trekking through Sonemarg, a Himalayan halt beside Sindh river. Pahalgam is a quieter hamlet in Kashmir and a favorite destination of Indian film makers who choose to shoot amid unplugged natural splendor cut off from mainstream population.
