Explore the enchanting hill town of Darjeeling with this three-night excursion into India's so-called "Queen of the Hills." During the course of your trip, you'll get to watch the sunrise from Tiger Hill, visit a 19th-century Buddhist Monastery, wander through beautiful old tea estates, and even go on a day trip out to the romantic lake town of Mirik nearby.
Day 01:Arrival at New Jalpaiguri Junction/Bagdogra International Airport
Bagdogra International Airport Our representative will meet you on your arrival at Railway Station/Airport and then, you’ll get a transfer to Darjeeling. On arrival, check in to the hotel. Spend the day at leisure. Overnight stay at Darjeeling.
Day 02 (Darjeeling)
Get an early morning pickup from hotel and drive to Tiger Hill (8,400 ft.) to watch striking view of sunrise over Mt. Khangchendzongha (world’s 3rd highest peak at an elevation of 28,208 ft.). Tiger hill is the highest point in Darjeeling town and is the best place to get sweeping view of the entire Khangchendzongha peak turning into gold with the first rays of the sun. On your way back from the Tiger Hill, visit Ghoom Monastery, the oldest monastery in the area established in 1875, which preserves some rare handwritten Buddhist Manuscripts. Now, return to hotel for breakfast, then relax awhile. Later proceed to enjoy a heritage ride of the iconic Toy Train in Darjeeling. The Toy Train is honored with the title of UNESCO World Heritage status. Taking around 50 minutes, the ride will take you on a scenic journey to Ghoom, which is the highest altitude station of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway at 7407 ft. After reaching Ghoom, you’ll be picked up for a drive back to Darjeeling, reaching in time for a lunch. After lunch, your Darjeeling sightseeing starts with a visit to the nearest Tea Estate and take in lovely view of the never-ending expanse of green bushes. Next, visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, built as a tribute to sherpa Tenzing Norgay, one of the first person who climbed the Mt. Everest summit in 1953 along with Edmund Hillary. Then visit the Zoological Park, India’s largest high altitude zoo (at 7,000 ft.) sheltering amazing Himalayan animals and other endangered rare species. Followed by a visit to the Japanese Buddhist Temple, a traditional Japanese styled two-storied white building established by Nichidatsu Fuiji. Later, visit Tibetan Refugee Center, a self-help unit set up in 1959, worth visiting to observe the life of the refugees here. Here, you’ll see Tibetan men and women making exquisite handicrafts like carpets, woolen shawls, coats and a lot of other delightful items. After a day of memorable sightseeing, return to hotel. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 03: Day excursion to Mirik Lake
After enjoying breakfast, proceed to a full-day excursion to Mirik Lake (at a height of 4,902 ft.). Mirik is a small hill town famous for its high-quality orange orchards, tea estates and several tourist attractions. In Mirik, you’ll visit the picturesque Mirik lake. One can do boating in the lake (optional). At the end of the excursion, return to your hotel in Darjeeling. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 04: Bagdogra International Airport
After breakfast, check-out from the hotel and get transferred to Railway Station / Airport for your onward journey.
