Day 1: Delhi to Rishikesh
At 6 am, our representative will meet and assist you in getting transferred to Rishikesh (5-6 hours’ drive approx.)
Upon arrival in Rishikesh, check into the hotel and after lunch (own expenses), head out to explore Rishikesh. See Lakshman Jhula, an iron suspension bridge built in 1939, is 450 ft. long and 70 ft. in height from the Ganges. The story behind Lakshman jhula goes that Lakshman (Lord Ram’s brother) had crossed the river at the same site over a bridge made of jute. You will see another similar bridge over the Ganges which is the Ram Jhula named after Lord Ram, built in 1986, is an iron parallax bridge with a span of 750 ft.
Walking down the two bridges, one can get panoramic views of Rishikesh city. Now you will visit Sivananda Ashram (near to Ram jhula), a well-maintained ashram, founded in 1936, famous for yoga and meditation. Also, you will be seeing Parmarth Niketan Ashram, located just next to the Ganges. Later, proceed to find Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ashram which is also known as the Beatles ashram of the 1960’s famous English music band The Beatles. Learn how after the band members’ visit to Rishikesh in 1968 to learn transcendental meditation at the ashram had glorified Rishikesh on the world map as the ‘spiritual capital of the world’. Moving ahead in your tour, halt at Bharat Mandir, the most ancient and sacred temple in the city, built in the 9th century by Adi Shankaracharya, its antiquity finds mention in many ancient Hindu scriptures like Mahabharat.
Next, you can relax at the steps of the old Rishikund pond, before proceeding to Triveni Ghat (a ghat is a place by the river with steps leading down to the waters) on the banks of the Ganges to watch the divine evening Maha Aarti ceremony. The confluence of the three holy rivers - the Ganges, the Yamuna and the Sarasvati happens at Triveni Ghat, and that’s why the ghat is an auspicious bathing spot in Rishikesh believed to wash away all sins and purify the soul. The whole atmosphere is magical with priests chanting of prayers, beats of drums and bells, smoke rising from incense sticks and glowing diyas (lamps).
Return to your hotel in Rishikesh for the overnight stay.
Day 2: Rishikesh via Haridwar to Delhi
Wake up early morning for a Yoga session with our professional yoga trainer, lasting around 45 minutes. After yoga, take breakfast at the hotel, and, later, get transferred to Haridwar (20 km/40 min approx. by road) for a half day sightseeing. Haridwar literally means Gateway to God, lies in the lap of the Himalayan ranges, one of the holiest places to Hindus, the sacred source of the rivers Ganga and the Yamuna, and is the gateway to Char Dham yatra (four pilgrimages) in the state of Uttarakhand.
Start at Har ki Pauri on the banks of river Ganges, considered to be one of the most sacred places along the Ganges, where taking a holy dip means washing away all sins. It is believed that Hindu God Vishnu’s footprints can be found on a stone wall at the ghat. The ghat also called Brahma Kund, is said to have been constructed at the behest of king Vikramaditya, in the 1st century BC, in memory of his brother Bhatrihari, who had performed meditation on the banks.
You can also explore some of the temples scattered around Har ki Pauri. Later, take a short trip to Ma Anandamayi Ashram, located just 6 km from Haridwar and is popular among tourists seeking spiritual peace and calm. As the tour ends, drive back to Delhi for a drop-off at your hotel or the airport.
