Get picked-up from your Varanasi hotel and then get transferred to the local vegetable market, which will be your first stop of the tour. We will hop from stall to stall looking for fresh ingredients, for our cooking lesson tour ahead, and enthusiastically bargain with the vendors as the locals do. After we have explored the market and collected all the necessary things, we will proceed to the home of a local Indian family who will be our host for the cooking and dinner tour. Arrive at your hosts place, and be part of a warm welcome, as they greet you at their home in traditional style. You will get insight into their years’ worth of knowledge about traditional Indian methods of cooking and the art of blending exotic spices and herbs to produce succulent and delectable North-Indian cuisine. Get invited to the kitchen and we will begin by preparing masala chai (Indian spiced tea), a sweet and spicy flavoured tea beverage made by brewing milk and tea leaves with a mixture of aromatic Indian spices. To go with the tea, we need something to snack on, hence we will have our hands at making some pakodas (fried fritters, prepared using batter which has been filled with bits of vegetables, spices, or other ingredients). The combination of tea and pakoda is a treat that locals usually enjoy. As you heartily enjoy the warm sips of the masala tea and delicious bites of the pakodas, your chef will give you insights into Indian cuisine and things to look forward to during the cooking class. Now it is time to don your aprons and put your culinary skills to the test. You will learn to prepare variety of delicious dishes, including rice pulao, daal (lentil soup), eggplant, raita (a side dish of yogurt containing chopped vegetables of choice, and spices) and chapattis (flat breads).
